“But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.” (2 Kings 5:11)
Naaman came from Syria. He was the king’s commander of that great nation and was threatening the northern kingdom of Israel. We are told that he was “a great man” and had brought great victories to Syria. He was accustomed to wars, mighty battles, royal palaces, dazzling magicians; he was a man who lived for the spectacular. In ancient times, he would be a man of New York City’s Broadway - always living for the spectacular and always expecting the spectacular. And a spectacular thing happened to him: he became sick with leprosy. Therefore, this great man seeks a great solution to his great problem and goes to the most spectacular person in the world: Elisha.
